5 Important Questions To Ask An SEO Company

If you are new to internet marketing you’ll soon realize it takes more than just building a website to actually get real people to visit it. Also, if you are a small business trying to find new customers a high quality website with natural search engine traffic is worth it’s weight in gold. There are hundreds of SEO companies who claim that they can get you to the top of the major search engines in 24 – 48 hours. (BTW, 24- 48 hours is a term you’ll hear in the internet service world. When most of the time internet companies can finish a project in a few hours.) I have compiled a list of questions and concerns you should ask when hiring an internet SEO company.

Question 1: Can you really get me on top of the search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing in 24 hours without paying for keywords?

99% of the time most SEO companies cannot deliver this to a customer. Especially if your website is new and has no previous search engine rankings. Large sites with thousands of pages sometimes can be indexed  in 24 hours. The reason why is because search engine spiders are constantly crawling large sites and they are more likely to rank new content faster. However, if you are starting a website from scratch, this is almost impossible.

Question 2: What keywords could I realistically rank high for  in a few months?

This is a very important question if you are a small business that is looking for local results. The reason why it’s easier to rank higher and faster for local search engine results is the fact that the competition is relatively low. If your business is about dog grooming, a keyword phrase like, “Austin Texas Cheap Dog Grooming” will rank higher and faster as opposed to “Dog Grooming”. Make sure you ask the SEO company what type of keywords they can help you rank for. If you are trying to rank high for a number of keywords, understand it may take anywhere from 2 – 8 months with aggressive article writing and link building in order to get to the top of the search engines.

Question 3: What type of link building do you offer?

Link building is probably the most important way to rank high in the search engines. Why? Because the more websites that point to your site, makes you more important. The number and quality of the links can significantly help you rank faster and higher in the search engines. Make sure when you discuss link building that you explain you want them to get relevant and similar back links and reciprocal links. Some SEO companies will link websites that aren’t even in the same niche. For instance, a website about cars links to a website about babies. However, if the car website has information about car seats for newborn babies, this would be okay. Relevancy is key! Irrelevant  link building may work for a few months but it will most likely be affected in the long run. Google and the other big dogs are looking for links that are relatively close that could benefit the visitor. Tell the company you expect quality relevant links.

Question 4: How can Facebook and Twitter help my website and business?

Social media is exploding right now and if you are a business looking to get quality visitors to your website, you need to take advantage of social media. If you are a local business make sure the SEO company builds you a Facebook page and Twitter page for your website. When a visitor lands on your page and sees a Facebook and Twitter button, there is a change they could ‘like’ your website. Once someone ‘likes’ your website all of their friends and family will see it and there is a change they will also visit your website. This can be a very powerful tool if used correctly. Be sure to ask more questions about this one.

Question 5: Is the SEO company legitimate?

Look for testimonials from other clients and previous work that they have done. One of the most tempting things for SEO companies to do is cut corners. People are always finding new ways to take advantage and manipulate Google, Yahoo and Bing. Try to find a company that has positive solid history and happy customers.
